NJ fence permit: state rules, forms and town packages
The UCC exempts many low fences from a construction permit, so for most homeowners the town's zoning rules on height, location and pool barriers are what matter.
25 town packages on file for this project. Permits named most often in those towns: Zoning (16); Construction (2); Zoning / Construction (1).
What the project usually involves
- Ask zoning first: fence height and placement limits are set by each town's ordinance.
- Taller fences and fences that serve as a pool barrier can need a construction permit under the building subcode.
- When a construction permit is needed, file the F100 with the F110 building section.
- Pool barrier fences are inspected as part of the pool permit.
