NJ kitchen remodel permit: state rules, forms and town packages

Kitchen remodels are mostly trade work: new circuits, relocated plumbing and gas or vent changes each fall under their own subcode.

25 town packages on file for this project. Permits named most often in those towns: Construction (2).

What the project usually involves

  1. Cabinet and countertop replacement alone is often ordinary maintenance; moving walls is building work.
  2. New or relocated circuits and appliances need the electrical section (F120).
  3. Moving the sink or dishwasher needs the plumbing section (F130).
  4. A new range hood duct or gas line adds the mechanical section (F145).
